5 Rock at Battle of the Bands

5 Rock at Battle of the Bands

On Thursday 20th June our school band 5 Rock attended the North Devon regional competition of the Devon Music Hub Battle of the Bands competition. This year there were 12 members who represented the school, by far the largest ensemble on stage. The band performed Since You’ve Been Gone by Rainbow with lead vocals by Tyler Lister and Debbie Fagbemi as well as a fantastic guitar solo by Thomas Smallridge.

The band were recognised for creating a thick rich sound, musical enjoyment and judges liked the way that although it was a large ensemble it had fantastic sound, and wasn’t muddy with all those guitarists on stage! Debbie, Tyler and Thomas were also recognised for their musical moments.

Although we didn’t win, the band were recognised and awarded a place at The Mix Festival at Bridewell Park on the 5th and 6th of July.

The group represented themselves and the school really well and should be really proud of their performance.

Miss Beardshall and Ms Monk would also like to say thank you, good luck and farewell to two regular Year 11 band members, Lillian Dunsworth and Ellie Holt who now leave us ready to start college in September. Good luck ladies and thank you.
