Last Friday, Mr Worsfold and I began our 100 mile ultra race around the tip of Cornwall. The preparation couldn’t have gone better, even so, we were both feeling incredibly nervous as we lined up alongside more than 500 other runners from over 50 nations in Coverack on the Lizard Peninsular. Thankfully, the weather gods were on our side with Storm Eowyn having mostly passed the night before.
The race itself was everything we both feared and hoped it would be: hard, cold, wet, never-ending, beautiful and incredibly fun. If you’ve ever walked the coast path between Land’s End and St Ives you’ll know what I mean! Fortunately, the sun put in an appearance on Saturday as we headed towards the finish at Porthtowan on the north coast.
In the end, we both achieved what we had trained so long for. I managed to clock 23:35 in 18th place and Mr Worsfold completed his first 100 miler in an impressive and hard fought 28 hours to take 68th place.
The focus then shifted to Mr Tamlyn who was running the 50 mile event. Despite this being by far his longest race distance to date, he put in a rapid performance to finish in 10:35 and take 32nd place.
As you probably know, we had decided to link this event to raising funds for the students at Park and we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated. Also, the messages we were sent both before and during the run were just the motivation we needed, especially in the long hours of darkness. Currently, our total is just over £3000 which is incredible and will go a long way to helping the kids.
