We are a team of teachers and Teaching Assistants who support children with particular educational needs.
We provide:
How do you know what my child’s needs are when he/she starts in year 7 at the Park School?
During the Spring Term and Summer Term when your child is in year 6, the SENCO and a Teaching Assistant will accompany either the Deputy Head or KS3 Assistant Head to every Primary School in our catchment area in order to meet with those children coming to the Park Community School. The SENCO and TA will discuss individual needs of students with each year 6 class teacher. This information is then passed to all the Heads of House and all the staff who will teach your child. The SENCO also attends the Annual Reviews of all Statemented pupils in years 5 & 6.
What if my child has a medical problem?
The School Nurse at your child’s primary school will automatically exchange information with our School Nurse at the Park Community School. The SENCO is in regular contact with the School Nurse and can make referrals to the School Doctor with parental permission.
What if my child had help in Key Stage 2 SATs, what will happen at the Park Community School?
If we discover that your child has a regular history of needing support with reading and writing in exams, tests and in class then they may be eligible for help in Assessments and possibly in GCSE examinations. A diagnosis of a difficulty alone is not enough to prove that there is a need. We have to have evidence of a history of need with both in class and out of class support in order to satisfy the JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) and the examinations boards.
