“If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
For two young ladies they certainly took on the challenge yesterday entering the Rotary Future Chef competition at Petroc College. Not only did they plan, prepare and perfectly execute their menus, they cooked in an unfamiliar, commercial kitchen against the clock and other students. Maddie and Tegan performed superbly.
Maddie cooked salmon wellington with a creamy spinach filling served with a side of baked herby potatoes and tender long stem broccoli followed by a layered raspberry parfait topped with fresh raspberries and butter cardamom biscuits. Tegan’s menu was creamy mushroom chicken with roast new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and green beans topped with almond flakes and parmesan cheese with raspberry brownie and coulis finished with clotted cream for dessert. Both girls worked extremely hard and presented immaculate meals.
Congratulations to Tegan who wowed the judges and was awarded first place. Tegan has gone through to the next round which takes place in March 2024.
Well done girls, we will be closely following the talents of these year ten students.
