GCSE Results 2019

Students of The Park Community School gathered in school today to collect their GCSE exam results.  The results were the culmination of 5 years’ hard work by students supported by teachers, staff and their parents.

Headteacher Gareth Roscoe commented: “I am really pleased for our students who have worked extremely hard to achieve the best ever set of results for Park School. Our outgoing year 11 are a fantastic cohort of young people and I am delighted they have earned results that matched their hard work and ethos.”

In a year where it has been widely acknowledged the examination process was extremely challenging and rigorous the school made progress in all key areas. 77% of students passed GCSE English, an improvement of 7% from last year. This pattern was repeated in Maths with another high pass rate of 78%. In Biology, Chemistry and Physics over 30% of students achieved grades 9-7 or A*/A in the old grading system with 90% of students passing Triple Science. Modern languages results were also very pleasing with 78% of students taking GCSE French or Spanish gaining a pass in this qualification.

Whilst it is right that we acknowledge and celebrate the success of those students who achieved grades 9, 8 or 7 in all subjects we also have a number of students who showed remarkable resilience and grit in the face of difficult circumstances to achieve grades of which they can be very proud. We have examples of students who suffered from medical problems, mental health issues, anxiety and personal challenges who gave their best to achieve some fantastic results of which I am very proud.
These students are positive roles models to others as to what can be achieved with support, belief, determination and patience.

Aimee Mills, Assistant Headteacher added “I am immensely proud of every student and the hard work and determination they have put into their studies; they have set the standard for the rising year 11 in September. This year group has shown that hard work, determination and a can-do attitude is rewarded with great results in August. Thank you also to all our teachers who have worked hard to help our students achieve. Good luck to all the students going on to college or apprenticeships in the next few weeks and well done to all of you.”

The Headteacher added: “The school congratulates all students and wishes them well as they embark on the next stage of their life. We look forward to seeing them again at our GCSE celebration event in November when they will be presented with their GCSE certificates”.
