North Devon Schools Girls Football Competition Round 2

Match report by George King, PE Technician

On Wednesday this week Round 2 of the North Devon Girls Football Tournament took place at Ilfracombe Academy.

Park U14’s played their final group games in group 1. They were top of their league table after round 1 and avoiding defeat would mean they would go through to the North Devon final.

Park U16’s would start their league campaign and hope to hit the ground running with 3 wins.

U14s

Florence Hill, Khloe Reed joined the U14 squad after missing out on round 1. Both made great contributions towards Park’s passing and helped the team to secure a win and a draw, scoring 3 goals and only conceding 1. This incredible run of results meant over 5 games Park U14 only conceded 2 goals, a massive achievement from all that have taken part. Special mentions to Amelia Boulton who captained the team for round 2 and set the tone of both games with her game intelligence and quick footwork.

Braunton vs Park 0-0
Pilton vs Park 1-3

U16s

The last time Park U16’s played a competitive fixture was back in March 2023 at the Devon County tournament. The girls are aiming to return to winning ways against Ilfracombe, Pilton and Braunton.

Captain Ava Beattie led the warm up and with a few stern words to the troops the girls were under way. From the first kick Park were dominant in possession and it wasn’t long until they grabbed their first goal. Ava Beattie with a left foot shot curled into the top corner. Soon after Violet Hill with an unstoppable turn and shot which gave the Pilton goalkeeper no chance. Before they knew it all the girls had chances to score, Amelia Reed and Scarlet Rose followed up with goals for themselves. Special mention to Esme Smith who prior to kick off had stopped playing football for her local club but took part and stood out as a key player, making all the right decisions and working incredibly hard for her team.

Park U16 won all three fixtures and now sit top of the group with 9 points, scoring 15 goals.

Pilton vs Park 1- 3
Park vs Ilfracombe 8 – 0
Braunton vs Park 0 – 4

These fantastic results mean Park’s U14’s are through to the final of the North Devon Girls Football Competition. Park U16’s have also made an incredible start, they play again next Wednesday at Pilton with the U12’s to find out if they will also get to a North Devon Final.

Good luck girls and congratulations on doing brilliantly in representing the school in competitive fixtures.
