After only winning 1 out of 2 trophies prior to this match. Everyone involved with Park football were keen to see Mr Phillips’ side go the mile and secure the trophy that they had narrowly missed out on last season.
Park seemed quietly confident in the build up to kick off, the Year 10 squad had been to the final before, but this time round they had to match their performance with a result.
Riley Davis captained the team wearing the Park yellow-highlighter coloured shirt and orange captain’s armband. His voice directed those in front of him ensuring they were not broken down by Braunton’s creative players. Braunton started the game confident in possession and made life difficult for Daniel Sturm in midfield. Their attacking threat however was halted at almost every turn by a Park shirt.
Nathan Callister’s relentless energy was put to good use hassling the Braunton midfield ensuring nobody in a burgundy shirt had time to react. The pressure looked like it was starting to get to the Braunton centre backs when Tyler Harmsworth made his way past both to get a shot on goal.
Shortly after Park took the lead, a wayward cross found Oscar Knight who danced his way through Braunton defenders and tucked the ball past the keeper.
Braunton levelled through a missed hit corner which met the foot of the Braunton striker who volleyed it home.
1-1 at half time and after a few changes, Park started the second half with a new lease of life. Dan Porche was subbed on to make the difference in midfield, winning possession back for Park on numerous occasions.
As the second half developed, Braunton had the majority of possession and were starting to ask some questions of the Park defence. Park defended resolutely and waited for their turn to break. A second goal for Oscar Knight, after some intelligent runs in behind, made the scoreline 2 -1. Braunton gave up the possession tactics and went for the equaliser leaving them open at the back. Tyler Harmsworth made sure of the win by steamrolling past two burgundy shirts to make it three.
Another trophy secured for Park boys Football.
