History at Park School focuses upon providing pupils with a fully immersive curriculum which will allow them to evaluate the causes and consequences and significance of key moments.  We utilise the events of the past to inform students about the world around them and focus upon developing literacy levels and learning skills.  Our committed and dynamic team of teachers believe that positive engagement is the key component of learning and so we work hard to ensure that pupils are able to complete a variety of engaging and stimulating learning experiences within the classroom and beyond. We currently run educational visits in Year 7 to Chepstow Castle and in Year 9 to the Imperial War museum and the London Dungeons.

A GCSE in History is highly valued by further education institutions and employers alike. History graduates are seen as adaptable, analytical, resourceful, and literate. The flexibility of thought promoted through studying history, coupled with investigation skills and a strong literacy focus enables pupils to access a wide range of degree courses and professions. At GCSE we use the Edexcel 9-1 History specification. Our modules are Medicine Through Time; Surgery in the Trenches of WW1; Anglo-Saxon an d Norman England c.1060-88; The American West c.1836 –c.1895; and Germany 1918-39.

The History Society

The Park School History Society continues to meet every Friday Week 1 Room Hi1. The society is coordinated by Mr Cuthbertson, but largely pupil led.  Activities include, historical knowledge games, competitions, ‘history experiences’ such as a WW1 Trench Lunch and on occasion the opportunity to become involved in community projects.

We have aimed the Students Society at Years 10 and below due to the heavy demands on Year 11 students, but of course they are welcome to attend. If your son or daughter is interested in joining the History Society they should ask any of the History Staff or approach the committee.
