Primary Schools Athletics Competition

Primary Schools Athletics Competition

Today seven teams from our feeder primary schools took part in the sports hall athletics. Everyone took part in five different athletic events which included a chest push, a standing long jump, a one lap relay run, speed jumps and a 2 lap relay run. The event concluded with a whole team relay, all 12 runners, run over hurdles. Lots of effort and some great performances by all.

Congratulations to the winners, Newport and runners up, Sticklepath, who now go through to the North Devon finals in March.

The event was officiated by 25 sports leaders from Y8, who did a marvellous job.

Approx. 50 students from Y7 and the same from Y8, are selected each year to receive extra support and training to develop their leadership skills. This takes place in extra training sessions in their PE lessons. These leaders are then given the opportunity to practise their skills at the primary school festivals throughout the year.

The primary school festivals involve all year groups from Y1 to Y6 and cover activities such as athletics, cricket, tennis, rounders, football, netball, multi skills and multi sports.
