Y9 & 10 students experience Science Live!

On Tuesday 27th February we took 41 students from years 9 & 10 to the Forum theatre, Bath, for an informative day hearing from pioneering scientists at the top of their respective fields. We started the day with the infamous Sir Robert Winston who spoke to us about his work in human fertility. He was then followed by Prof Dave Cliff and Dr Jess Wade in their fields of computer science and we learnt about developments in not only the making of computer chips but also the materials that they are made from. We finished the day with a talk by Prof Alice Roberts on her work in archaeology and finally Prof Andrea Seller about chemical processes and ‘how the zebra got its stripes?’.

Their passion and knowledge certainly captured their audience and it was then interesting to hear from our students about what their views were on each speaker and therefore who they were most interested in/captivated by. The theme that ran through each speech though was that if you are inquisitive, if you are passionate and hard working and if you don’t believe something just because ‘someone told you that it was true’ then there is a gap in the science market for you!! So who knows, maybe one day in the future we will be listening to one of our own taking the stage and inspiring the next generation of budding young scientists!

Thank you to each and every one of our students who conducted themselves impeccably and were an absolute pleasure to take along with us.
