On Wednesday a group of 8 students from Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 took our STEM electric go-kart to race at our first Greenpower race meeting since Covid.
The race meeting was held in the Lizard at Predannick airfield meaning a very early start. We were on the road at 6am and arrived at 9am just in time for registration. By 9.30am it was time for practice, with the go-kart performing well, it gave the students the chance to do some laps and establish the quickest drivers.
Race 1 kicked off at 11am, an hour and half of racing, teams had to cover as many laps as possible in that time. The ‘Park Panther’ did well and the team’s pit stop practice really paid off. They clocked 45 laps and came 6th in our class.
After a short break for lunch, race 2 started at 2pm, again another hour and a half to complete as many laps as possible. This time the team clocked 43 laps before the batteries ran out, but still managed to finish 6th. Consistency is key in endurance racing and the students did really well to achieve the results they did.
We packed up and arrived back at school at 8pm, morale was high on the way home especially after such a long day.
The students were a testament to the school, showing complete independence throughout the day, organising themselves and requiring very little help from the staff. We are very proud of all of them.
