Top of the Bench Chemistry Competition

Top of the Bench Chemistry Competition

Last term, we entered a team of some of our strongest chemistry students across Years 9-11 into the Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Top of the Bench’ competition. Students competed in the regional heat for the Peninsula section against teams across Devon and Cornwall. They were asked to work together to complete a report on the quality of Devon’s rivers in a task that is also given to chemistry undergraduates at the University of Plymouth.

The team conducted themselves brilliantly, showing outstanding levels of independence and curiosity. They were keen to get stuck into what was a very challenging task.

We have just had the results back and placed a very impressive second in Devon and Cornwall. While only the winners will move onto the national competition, our team should be very proud of what they have achieved against some very tough competition.
