The students involved did amazingly to get to the final and now it was time to try and bring the trophy home. (Match report below. Results at the end)
Park had a flying start with Rory Rose and Reggie Staddon chasing down every player in a blue shirt. Pilton could not handle pressure and were forced to give up the ball more times than not. Fletcher Watkinson and the Park team then grew into the game, creating a handful of chances, including a rocket strike from Fletcher that narrowly went over the bar.
Soon after Rory Rose broke the deadlock with a tidy finish to the keepers right.
Park then seemed to lose a grip of the game with both teams scrapping for the ball then giving it away cheaply. A mistake by Logan Decherchi leveled the score, a power strike from 20 yards out dropped by his feet and was pushed into the goal.
Half Time 1 -1
The second half started much like the first ended, not great football from either side but both teams fought for every last ball. Park had chances but nothing came of them…until Park were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Aaron stocker who sent it into the goal off the underside of the crossbar.
Soon after another individual error cost Park and Pilton striker was let through direct from a goal kick to make the score 2-2. Penalties loomed but not before another free kick for park on the edge of the box….Rory Rose this time stepped up…straight at the wall.
Onto to penalties.Three penalties to each team to decide the winner. Fletcher Watkinson, Rory Rose and Reggie Staddon all volunteered to take one. Unfortunately Park missed a penalty and Pilton managed to score all three and they went home as North Devon year 7 Champs.
Everyone from Park, students and staff were gutted not to win the trophy, but there are plenty of positives to take into next year. It has been a great first competition for this group. I am sure there will be a trophy or two throughout their time at Park school
