Our Year 10 Art and Photography students embarked on an unforgettable cultural trip to London, packed with sightseeing, creativity, and a few brave moments of terror! The itinerary promised an enriching journey through some of the city’s most iconic museums and galleries, as well as the opportunity to soak in the vibrant atmosphere of London’s streets and green spaces.

The trip began with a visit to the National Portrait Gallery , where students were able to view portraits of some of the most influential figures in British history. From monarchs and authors to contemporary public figures, followed by a hilarious trip to the Duchy Theatre for a show called The Play That Goes Wrong.

The Victoria and Albert Museum is always a favourite, where students explored the rich collections of fashion, design, sculpture, and decorative arts. Students wandered through centuries of creativity, sketching and photographing the exhibits.

The Saatchi Gallery, housed the Flora in Contemporary Art and Culture exhibition. This fed directly into our current coursework unit and should inspire some amazing final pieces in the forthcoming exams. It was a different experience from the V&A, but one that clearly left an impact.

Throughout the weekend, we navigated the city on foot, taking in several of London’s landmarks.The London Dungeons proved to be a thrilling highlight. With its dark tales and live-action scares, the attraction had students shrieking with laughter and terror!

In contrast, the trip concluded with a tranquil stop at Holland Park, where students had the opportunity to unwind and reflect. The Kyoto Gardens, with their peaceful waterfalls and peacocks, were a clear favourite. Some students chose to quietly draw or take photographs, capturing the serene beauty of the space. Camden Market provided a final flurry of culture and incredible food before we boarded the coach for home!

We hope that this experience inspired a sense of adventure for future visits to our capital.
