Year 8s swap the classroom for the beach!

This week year 8 were lucky enough to swap the classroom for a day at the beach, but it wasn’t a day off! Our students practised geographical fieldwork techniques: measuring and comparing rockpools to assess differences in erosion, as well as identifying coastal species and comparing levels of biodiversity in different areas of the wave-cut platform.  We also looked at the impact of people on the beach and were able to see how the conservation work completed by some of our older students earlier in the year, who planted old Christmas trees in the eroded dunes, were starting to have a positive effect by helping to rebuild a valuable ecosystem. The students worked really hard which meant we were able to fit in an enthusiastic lunchtime beach football game and an equally enthusiastic ice cream shop visit!
